Important Information for Parents & Athletes
Coaches:
-
All coaches are volunteers. We do this for the love of the sport, the love of our athletes, and the growth and knowledge that these athletes will take with them to the communities in which they live and will serve later in their lives.
-
All coaches have background checks and are cleared through the USATF protocols and training.
Track Meets:
-
All 2025 USATF Regulation, State Championship and Junior Olympic meets will be held throughout the state of Arizona. Typically held on Saturdays and some Sundays and begin early morning and last well into the evening.

Fundraising:
All members of Arizona Speedstars are responsible for participating in club fundraising events. The purpose of our fundraising is to attempt to offset the cost to parents for out-of-state travel, needed equipment, and snacks/drinks for meets. Fundraisers may include business supported events where athletes will be asked to promote a fundraising night where the business will donate a % of proceeds to the team, 50/50 raffles, community dinner/BINGO night, etc. Parents may donate to the Club of $300.00 in lieu of participating in fundraisers.
All Parent Participation:
At each meet our team is responsible to run the shotput event. This means that we need at least 3-4 parents and 1 coach in that area until all age groups have participated according to the schedule. Here are the job duties that will need to be covered.
-
Fetcher – After the implement has been thrown, the fetcher will collect the ball and roll it back. Also helps determine if the ball is “out” of the playing field (hit the line or outside of the marked field)
-
Marker – Must pay attention to where the ball lands and place the marking pole at the nearest indentation made by the implement. Must determine if the ball is “out” of the playing field (hit the line or outside of the marked field)
-
Sheet Documenter – Will be given the clipboard to “check in” athletes, ensure athletes remain in order, and document the measurements announced by the measurer.
-
Measurer – Must ensure the athlete throws comply with regulations (no running start, feet do not go outside of the ring or on top of the board, ball thrown from the neck area and not like a baseball, leaves the circle out the back). Measurements are in meters and will be measured from the marking pole to the inside of the board.
-
Tape puller – The tape measure must go across the center dot of the throwing circle to ensure an accurate measurement. The tape puller ensures the tape is pulled tight and across the center for the measurer.
